I made this series in a day and a half, spending about 12 hours in the studio. I was on a tear (collage joke!). Almost every page of Yachting and Popular Science magazines from the 1950s had something cool to work with: schematics, diagrams, illustrations, photos. I also landed on a mod nautical palette, which coordinated well with the other black and white elements. Growing up in New England, the “nautical look” carried a stuffiness, even if it was meant to imply relaxation, or the “good life.” Giving this refined world a little pop was quite satisfying.
